Underground station built as part of the District Line extension from barking. It was designed by W.H. Hamlyn, chief architect of the London, Midland & Scottish Railway, who ran this section of the line until 1948. The interior floor features a swastika, a popular symbol in the 1920s and 30s before its co-option by the Nazis.
