Name: Langham House Close
Date: 1958

Architect: Stirling & Gowan

Borough: Richmond Upon Thames

Listing: Grade II*

Notes: Thirty flats arranged in two and three storey blocks, on a long thin plot behind Langham House off Ham Common. The scheme, designed by James Stirling and James Gowan, became a flag bearer for the ‘New Brutalism’ in the late 1950’s, with exposed concrete frames, stock brick infill and jutting drain gargoyles. Internally, the living spaces are planned around fireplaces in exposed brick.
