James Stirling
Grade II*
One of Stirling’s ‘Red Trilogy' buildings (with the Engineering Building, Leicester and Florey Building, Oxford) that has proved one of Cambridge’s most contentious modernist buildings. Set in a L-Plan with a glazed central section, the building has been said to be too hot in summer and too cold in winter. The library is on the Sidgwick Site, which was designed by Casoon and Conder from 1952 for Cambridge University's arts and humanities buildings.
