Name: East Finchley Underground Station
Date: 1939
Architect: Charles Holden with LH Bucknell and Ruth Ellis
Lines: Northern
Borough: Barnet
Notes:This station was originally designed by Leonard Bucknell and Ruth Ellis, for the 1935 New Works Programme, as Charles Holden worked on his University of London scheme. The site is slightly awkward with the platforms sitting above street level as the line heads underground just south of the station. The best part of the station is the platforms, with the glass staircase towers, long curved passenger shelters and the Archer statue, designed by Eric Aumonier, pointing us southwards towards the metropolis and beyond to Morden.
