Name: Battersea Power Station
Date: 1929-55
Architects: Leonard Pearce with J. Theo Halliday and Sir Giles Gilbert Scott
Borough: Wandsworth
Listing: Grade II*
Notes: One of the most recognisable buildings in London, Battersea Power Station stands on the south bank of the Thames, a proud monument to the industrial age, now home to a shopping centre and apartments. Built as two distinct power stations over 25 years, the eminent architect Sir Giles Gilbert Scott was brought in as an architectural consultant to make the functional structure easier on the eye, with decorative brickwork and the four famous, fluted chimneys (now rebuilt).
